Got here right when it opened at noon. Started with the hummus and pita, Spanish omelette, and beef with potatoes. Tip: eat it all together! The hummus had some sweet potato chips in it sooo good. Then the seafood paella came. HUGE portions! Best paella ever. Amazing meal to end my Spain trip.

By far the best meal and service we have had in Madrid. The service was phenomenal. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive. Tried his best to speak English for us and did a great job. Food came out fast and was hot and tasted so good. Also, the prices were insanely affordable.

Had a wonderful experience at Taberna El Sur. Our waiter was incredibly attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and the service was quick. It seems like q small place, but theres a good amount of seating inside. To avoid having to wait for a seat, I would recommend arriving a bit before 7pm. We ordered the garlic prawns, they were perfectly cooked and had a rich, garlicky flavor. Be sure to ask for some bread to soak up some of that sauce. The pork cheeks were tender and paired wonderfully with the creamy smashed potatoes. The grilled octopus was one of the highlights, it was cooked with just the right amount of char and tender without being too chewy. The Iberian ham platter was also great, though a bit on the salty side for my taste, but still enjoyable. I do wish they had provided more breadsticks to balance out the saltiness. Finally, the sangria was a perfect companion to our meal. It was refreshing, fruity, and not too sweet. Would definitely come back if I'm in Madrid again!

Holy smokes! We just have so much fun at El Sur. Every time my wife and I go to Madrid...we just have the best time at these restaurants. The staff is great. The dishes are delicious and the drinks are tasty and hit the spot after putting miles under your paws exploring the city. If we lived in Madrid, we would basically live here -- it's just that welcoming and fun. I wish I could say keep it a secret, but it's already too late and we should no longer do that in a world where it takes all of us to keep the great places going. So, in that case, spread the word!

We happened to be in the neighborhood and randomly found Taberna El Sur on Google maps (4.5, ~7k reviews) Gambones Al Ajillo - 5/5 (perfect!) Chipirones a la Plancha - 4/5 (good but not great) Steak: 3/5 (overcooked, way too chewy) Great food, friendly staff, excellent service!

Wow! This restaurant was fantastic and we were lucky to walk in for brunch. The establishment is much larger than you would think from the outside as there's more dining space as you walk in-ward. The inner dining it great for large groups or families. My family was comfortably seated and our server was so friendly and attentive to us, we loved it and it was a great way to start the day. What we ordered: Calamari - delicious and generously sized perfect for 2+ people Patatas Bravas - fluffy inside and crunchy outside Iberian ham platter - delicious must order everytime we get a chance Ropa Vieja (tender and very well sized) Paella de mariscos - huge portion with a full we had enough to take home Prawns in sizzling garlic oil Steamed mussels in marinara sauce Everything was so good and so well priced, highly recommend El Sur!

Great food. Great service. Nice authentic ambiance meal. The food is flavorful. The octopus was very good, not chewy and seasoned well. The shrimp were exactly as described with a perfect garlic sauce. I find that traveling to other countries they use far less salt than what most Americans are used to. That's where the "not flavorful" reviews come from in my opinion. Oh and if you're a big eater order a few plates each.
